Board Members

The majority of our executive directors have worked together since 1993. Four of these lead underwriting businesses. This ensures a strong direct link between the business and the Board. The non-executive directors each bring specific, in-depth areas of expertise to the Board.



Executive Directors


Picture of Andrew Beazley, Chief Executive Andrew Beazley is the chief executive of the company. Andrew is a co-founder of Beazley Furlonge and the Active Underwriter for the management of syndicate 623 and syndicate 2623. He has 28 years of Lloyd’s experience. He is chairman of Lloyd’s of Japan and served on the Lloyd’s Chairman Strategy Group.


Picture of Andrew Horton, Group Finance Director Andrew Horton is the Group Finance Director and joined the board in June 2003. Andrew was previously UK Chief Financial Officer at ING and, prior to January 2001, was Deputy Global Chief Financial Officer and Global Head of Finance for the equity markets division of ING Barings, having held various financial positions with ING Barings since January 1997. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand in 1987.


Picture of Jonathan Gray , Director of Property Group Jonathan Gray is head of the group’s Property Division. Jonathan has 30 years of Lloyd’s experience and joined Beazley Furlonge in 1992. He specialises in writing open market commercial property risks.


Picture of Jonathan Rowell, Director of Specialty Lines Jonathan Rowell is head of the group’s Specialty Lines Division. Johnny has 19 years of Lloyd’s experience and focuses on writing professional liability insurance.


Picture of Neil Maidment, Director of Reinsurance Neil Maidment, FCII, is head of the group’s Reinsurance Division. Neil has 19 years of Lloyd’s experience and joined Beazley Furlonge in 1990 to take responsibility for the Reinsurance account.


Picture of Nicholas Furlonge, Director of Risk Management Nicholas Furlonge is responsible for the Risk Management of the Beazley Group. Nicholas is a co-founder of Beazley Furlonge and has 32 years of Lloyd’s experience. He is also responsible for marketing and the purchasing of the group operations reinsurance programmes.

Clive joined Beazley in 1998 as Head of Marine for Syndicate 2623/623 and is a member of both the Beazley Group Limited and Beazley Furlonge Limited Boards.

Prior to joining Beazley Clive spent eight years at ACE, initially as Deputy Underwriter of Syndicate 375 before taking over as Active Underwriter from the late Nick Colton.

He has twenty five years experience in the marine insurance industry, is a member LMA Marine Committee and Chairman of the Joint War Committee.

Picture of Jonathan Agnew, Chairman Jonathan Agnew is the Chairman of the company. He is also Chairman of LMS Capital plc, Ashmore Global Opportunities Limited and The Cayenne Trust plc and Senior Independent Director of Rightmove plc. Jonathan was formerly a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley and subsequently Chief Executive of Kleinwort Benson Group. He has been chairman of Limit plc, Gerrard Group plc and Nationwide Building Society.
Picture of Andy Pomfret, Non-Executive Director Andy Pomfret is Chief Executive Officer of Rathbone Brothers Plc, having joined in 1999 as Finance Director and, prior to that, held positions at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co (now KPMG) and Kleinwort Benson (now Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein).
Picture of Dudley Fishburn, Non-Executive Director Dudley Fishburn is Chairman of HFC Bank Limited and a Director of HSBC Bank plc. He is a Non-Executive Director of Household International Inc. and Altria Inc. in the USA.
Picture of Dan Jones, Non-Executive Director Daniel L. Jones retired in 2003 as Vice-Chairman for Marsh, Inc., responsible for non-North American operations, strategic planning, and mergers/acquisitions, officed out of London. In 2006 he re-entered the broking business as chief executive for the broking operations of Fred A. Moreton & Co., a Salt Lake City-based regional financial services concern focusing on the western United States.
Picture of Marty Becker, Non-Executive Director W. Marston Becker is currently an advisor/consultant in the insurance industry and was formerly Chairman and CEO of Orion Capital Corporation, President and CEO of McDonogh Caperton Insurance Group and Interim Chairman and CEO of Trenwick Group, Ltd. He is currently a director of Max Capital Group (Nasdaq - MXRE), Selective Insurance Group, Inc. (Nasdaq - SIGI), and ICAT Holdings, LLC.
Picture of Gordon Hamilton, Non-Executive Director Gordon Hamilton recently retired as a Senior Audit Partner in Deloitte & Touche LLP after more than 30 years, principally involved with listed multi-national company audits and major forensic assignments.
